Hailing from Durban, South Africa, Louis is a multi-disciplinary art director, graphic designer, illustrator, fine artist and muralist. His career first started in eleventh-grade, illustrating tee graphics for a local skate company - one of which earned him his first ‘Cease & Desist’ by the twelfth-grade. Having gone on to study Graphic Design at Durban University of Technology, he then worked in Durban’s leading agencies before landing on the shores of America in September, 2015. Since then, he’s settled-in nicely to his live-in studio in Brooklyn, and has worked in both full-time and freelance capacities at some of New York’s top agencies.
As an artist, de Villiers has shown work in private and national galleries across South Africa; as well as New York, Hong Kong, Berlin and Amsterdam. Joining a roster of South Africa’s most daring and exciting artists, he is represented by Kalashnikovv Gallery in Johannesburg. He shows regularly at international art fairs on top of various solo-and-group shows. Still an active muralist, he has also worked on commissioned projects around South Africa and Hong Kong.
